Sunday Times Saved by the Squid and SRS Portfolio - 1 Oct 2021

I used to enjoy reading the Sunday Times but not ever since Lorna Tan left for DBS and Tan Ooi Boon took over. The topics each week are rather boring and predictable.

You can tell that Ooi Boon is a fan of the CPF scheme and doesn't really invest as he is always concerned about investors getting into credit card debts and being conned.
I think you need someone who is more curious about the world, someone who really invests, to be the invest editor of Sunday Times. The papers can definitely do better in inspiring people to want to learn more about investing and planning for retirement instead of just relying on CPF day in day out and avoiding investing. I am sad to say that I am no longer excited to read the Sunday Times. ðŸ˜«

I was lamenting about another boring Sunday Times paper but luckily it was saved by the Squid Game.

The Squid Game probably can impart a few life lessons that Ooi Boon wanted to tell readers. Maybe he might attract more eyeballs next week if he writes about what he learns  from the Squid Game and that debt can be deadly - literally. ðŸ˜‚

Netflix says that Squid Game is the no.1 non-English show and possibly could become the no.1 show on Netflix ever. No wonder the share price is at an all time high and is a $271b company.

You can read about how Netflix transformed itself from a DVD rental company to where it is today here. From being disrupted, it became the biggest disrupter to itself and changed how we consume entertainment today.

SRS portfolio - 1 Oct 2021

No change to my portfolio. Still sitting on a cash balance of $191,000. Hopefully I can find some bargains in October.

Ok time to continue binge watching the Squid Game... 🦑
