SRS Portfolio - Add AEM Holdings & Pineapple is the king of fruits!

SRS Portfolio - 27 Aug 2023

Here is the portfolio snapshot as of 27 Aug 2023 - I added 10,000 shares of AEM Holdings at an average price of $3.35, bought over two tranches $3.25 and $3.44 last week. The decision to sell the original holdings at $4 in June has turned out well but let's see if this is just a dead cat's bounce. 

Presidential Election - Who are you voting for?

The 3 presidential candidates 

A 4 horse race turned into a 3 cornered fight when George Goh was found to be ineligible. I would have preferred him over Tan Kin Lian anytime. In any case, I am putting my money on TKL losing his presidential deposit (again). Some people described him as the real PAP "spy", sent to dilute votes as in the last election 😂 but he is no professor Snape.

Anyway, it would have been great if it was just Ng Kok Song versus Tharman and TKL is really a distraction and he is truly clueless about the role of the president.  I couldn't identify with his values (or the lack of), be it his frivolous postings about pretty girls or his stance on drug mules. I do think our electorate has matured, so yes, Tan Kin Lian is going to lose his deposit for his lack of self awareness and I am sure our young pretty female voters are not going to vote for him.

Ng Kok Song has a great personality, otherwise our former and most respected PM, Lee Kuan Yew wouldn't ask for tips from him on how to meditate. He for sure knows how to manage our reserves. His cat Max is going to help him win some votes (as seen in the video) but Mr. Ng is right though when he is "Papa tng lai liao" as he is going home (i.e. not going to win the election). Many voters find his age gap with fiance too wide, especially older female voters with daughters even though he had two remarkable love stories. So no mature older women voters here.

Mr. Tharman used pineapple as his symbol. Luckily he didn't have a pen there, otherwise it would be a PR disaster. I would have faulted hiim for taking this too lightly by using pineapple as the symbol, no matter how much I loved that fruit and what it represents. Tharman obviously meant a few things to me. 1. He is a leftist and socialist so for those who want equality and more social well being, he is the man. 2. He is a true intellect and he is really smart. I am not sure if you caught him on video defending Singapore but you can watch it here. So if you want a president that is respected globally, knows the local system and where to press the right buttons to advocate for change, he is the man.

So here are my predictions:

1. Tharman 55%
2. Ng Kok Song 40%
3. Tan Kin Lian 5% (forfeit his deposit)

Perhaps there is a reason why Tharman picked pineapple as his symbol, because in the western world, Pineapple is known as the king of the fruit (just google it) and is frequently used as a status symbol. He is probably not letting you know that other than the loud "huat ah" when you roll the ong lai (pineapple) ....

So may be best person wins (Huat Ah!)...
