SRS Portfolio - 5 March 2022

The war in Ukraine is a horrible one. It is quite inconceivable that in this time and age, there are still big bullies like Putin (and increasingly, Xi). Of course, there is always the perennial shit stirrer United States, who always tries to get NATO and Aussie to do its bidding.

The history of Ukraine and Russia is a fascinating one with many inter-marriages between people in these two regions and having a history "together" stretching back for centuries. The situation starts to escalate further when Ukraine wants to deepen its tie with the US and Europe and the straw that broke the camel's back was when NATO membership was dangled to Ukraine and that infuriated Russia. If you want to follow the situation, you can do it live here

The war will have a more devastating impact on the economy and lives than the covid. My heart goes to the people in Ukraine. It reminded me of the initial period where European countries tolerated with Hitler when he started conquering neighbouring countries, hoping he would stop at Poland but he never did. This is the tinderbox that might ignite World War 3 if Russia continues its provocative ways and Europe decides to act. All hell will break loose if China decides to join in the fray by reclaiming Taiwan. I haven't even mentioned about the mad man Kim or about Japan trying to recover the islands they lost during WWII. Just hope it is not my imagination running wild and sanity will prevail but it is increasingly difficult to predict what Putin might do next. He will probably stop when he can recreate the old USSR.

SRS portfolio

Despite the market correction, the SRS portfolio is "stable" at a negative 0.42%. OTS Holdings had its 1H results, which was quite crap. OTS maintained its buy rating with $0.29 target price (down from $0.40). You can access the report here but read it with a pinch of salt given SAC is the issuing manager.

SRS portfolio received the quarterly distributions of $1,140 from Suntec REIT on 28 Feb 2022 and is currently the "top performer" in the SRS portfolio (holding up the portfolio value).

The portfolio is sitting on $86k cash and I will deploy them if there are bargains to be found in the coming weeks. For this portfolio, I am seeking to generate a passive income through REITs and dividend paying stocks.

It is a funny feeling, with VTL opening up more countries and suddenly, you are faced with the prospect of a worsening war. It is hard to predict what will happen to the war and how Russia will react when the world tightens its noose and sanctions it . . . just hope this nightmare for Ukrainians will end soon and I stand with them.
